ASCOPE participated in Seminar on the Role of Natural Gas in Advancing a Low-Carbon Energy Transition in the ASEAN Region

On 10th November, 2021, ASCOPE participated in the “Seminar on the Role of Natural Gas in Advancing a Low-Carbon Energy Transition in the ASEAN Region” which was virtually hosted by Ministry of Energy Brunei Darussalam and co-hosted by ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE).

On behalf of ASCOPE, Dr. Tran Hong Nam, ASCOPE Secretary-In-charge delivered opening remark, highlighting that natural gas needs to be repositioned to play the key role in advancing the low-carbon energy transition. Key benefits of natural gas include security advantage, economic advantage (cost competitiveness), emission advantage (more environmentally sustainable), efficiency advantage, optionality advantage, distributed advantage, integration advantage.

Participating in the Seminar, ASCOPE delivered presentations on “The role of the ASEAN Ministers on Energy meeting in maximizing the benefits of natural gas” by Mr. Ngo Anh Hien, ASCOPE Secretariat Member and on “Policy and regulatory improvements to promote a common gas market for ASEAN” by Mr. James Ooi, Chairman of Gas Advocacy Task Force.
