    We are pleased to announce the publication of the ASEAN Energy Sector Methane Leadership Program (MLP) Booklet, a collaborative effort by USAID-SPP, ASCOPE, and ACE.
    This booklet showcases the achievements of the MLP 1.0: Capacity Building on Methane Emissions Management, and introduces its successor—MLP 2.0: Turning Capacity into Action.
  • The 8th ASCOPE Mid-Year Task Force Meeting: Reviewing Achievements and Shaping Future Initiatives

    The 8th ASCOPE Mid-Year Task Force Meeting and its associated sessions, hosted by Pertamina, were successfully held from May 27 to 30, 2024, at The Patra Bali Resorts and Villa, Indonesia. During the meeting, the ASCOPE Secretariat and Task Force Chairpersons provided updates on their progress in line with the Key Performance Indicators established by the ASCOPE Council. Highlights from the discussions in both individual and joint task force meetings are summarized below:
  • Methane Leadership Program 2.0 Launch

    In conjunction with the 49th ASCOPE Council Meeting 2024, held at the Petronas Leadership Center, a significant milestone was achieved with the launch of the ASEAN Energy Sector Methane Leadership Program 2.0 (MLP 2.0) on 2 October 2024. This launch marks a pivotal step forward in advancing methane emissions reduction efforts across the ASEAN region.
  • Pertamina Officially Assumes Role as ASCOPE Secretary in Charge for 2024-2029

    At the 49th ASCOPE Council Meeting on October 2, 2024, in Selangor, Malaysia, PetroVietnam officially handed over the role of ASCOPE Secretary in Charge (ASIC) to Pertamina for the 2024-2029 term. In a ceremonial event attended by ASCOPE Council members, Dr. Tran Hong Nam, outgoing ASIC from 2019 to 2024, passed the leadership to Henricus Herwin, Senior Vice President of Strategy & Investment at PT Pertamina (Persero). This transition signals a pivotal shift in ASCOPE's leadership, with Pertamina poised to lead key regional energy initiatives over the next five years.

    On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the Council Meeting was held in a series of events at the 49th ASCOPE Council Meeting. The event was held at Petronas Leadership Center in Selangor, Malaysia.
Country Profiling 2024 is Out Now!
Pertamina, as the ASCOPE Secretary in Charge, has released the Country Profiling Book, a publication that provides an overview of the energy landscape across 10 Southeast Asian countries. This book offers a comprehensive view of the energy sector, including the potential for collaboration among ASCOPE members. This document marks Pertamina’s strong commitment to strengthening cooperation, both through Government (G2G) and business-to-business (B2B), as one of the objectives of the ASCOPE Secretariat for the next five years, from 2024 to 2029.

ASEAN PETROLEUM SECURITY AGREEMENT (APSA)
The new ASEAN Petroleum Security Agreement or APSA is a covenant among Member States that establishes petroleum sharing scheme aimed at assisting Member State(s) in time of emergencies due to petroleum supply shortages. To date, APSA has already been fully ratified by ten (10) Member States namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

TRANS ASEAN GAS PIPELINE PROJECT (TAGP)
One of the most significant initiatives of ASCOPE, the Trans ASEAN Gas Pipeline (TAGP) Project is envisioned to “establish interconnecting arrangements of electricity and natural gas in ASEAN” to ensure greater security and sustainability of energy supply in the region.
