On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the Gas Advocacy Task Force (GATF) Meeting was held in a series of events at the 49th ASCOPE Council Meeting. The event was held at Petronas Leadership Center in Selangor, Malaysia.

The meeting discussed the previous meeting at the 8th ASCOPE Mid-Year Task Force Meeting, progress, and plans for Key Performance Indicators (KPI) 2025. The GATF meeting was chaired by Mr. Ngo Anh Hien (PetroVietnam), chairman of the GATF, and was attended by GATF members from other ASCOPE countries.

This meeting discussed GATF KPIs:

  1. Implementing Gas Advocacy White Paper
  2. Promoting Trans ASEAN Gas Pipeline (TAGP)
  3. Promoting Collaboration on LNG Trade, Investment, and Technical

This meeting discusses GATF Work Plan 2025 :

  1. Implementing Gas Advocacy White Paper
    1. Biomethane
    2. Utilization of gas pipe ROW or physical gas pipes as Hydrogen distribution infrastructure
    3. Utilization of gas pipeline ROW or physical gas pipelines as CO2e transportation infrastructure from CO2 emitter industries to injection points in ex-oil and gas subsurface basins.
    4. Gas downstream to petrochemicals, especially methanol and ammonia
  2. Promoting Trans ASEAN Gas Pipeline (TAGP)
    1. Improvement of the images on the existing TAGP map so that it is easy to identify domestic and cross-border pipelines.
    2. Alignment of TAGP and Trans-ASEAN Integrated Power Transmission Grid proposed by HAPUA. Coincidentally, the chair of HAPUA is at PLN Now. Several sections of the Hapua electricity transmission network are duplicated with the TAGP gas pipeline network
  3. Promoting Collaboration on LNG Trade, Investment, and Technical
    1. Exercise LNG is part of APSA (ASEAN Petroleum Security Agreement): AMEM has long had an APSA mandate, but the regional implementation has not been clear. The goal as of September 2024 has issued a Presidential Regulation regarding CPE but natural gas/LNG has not become a definitive mandate. Pertamina needs to obtain a sharing of CPE practices that are already running in country members, especially if LNG has become mandatory with a maintained inventory stock.
